There-Is-No-Perfect-Time-to-Get-Started-Pinnacle-Performance-and-FitnessWhat holds you back from getting started with a workout program or routine? For many people, it’s because they’re waiting for the right time. The perfect time.

Perhaps you’ve even told yourself that now isn’t a good time. You’ll start once things quiet down. Maybe you’re waiting to begin once school starts. Or ends. Perhaps your plan is to start after you lose 10 pounds, or 20 pounds, etc. Or you’re waiting to start when the gym seems less intimidating. You could be planning to begin on Monday. Next Monday? Or next month…

The truth is, there is no perfect time to get started. And as they say, the first step is always the hardest. So here are a few things to consider if waiting for the perfect time is keeping you from getting started.

1. Just start.

Simply put, the best way to get started with working out is by taking action. Doing something will always be better than nothing. Go for a walk around the block or take the dog down to the park. If you keep planning for the perfect situation, that day may never come. Take action now; just start.

2. Get some support.

If you have no idea what you’re doing, that’s okay! Find a coach or instructor who you trust and let them be your guide. Even better, recruit a workout buddy or two to get started with you. And once you get started, you’ll find a supportive community that shares similar goals as yours.

3. Be ready for challenges.

As exciting as it can be to get started with a new workout program, eventually some of that excitement will begin to fade. The newness wears off, and your motivation might decrease. That drop in energy and excitement can be a challenge to deal with. But if you’re ready for this and other challenges, you’re more likely to stick with your workouts no matter what obstacles come your way.
