Building a consistent workout routine around getting to the gym a few times a week is great! But what are some other good habits you can create for the time you spend away from the gym?
What about your workday habits? Most people will spend eight hours of each workday at their desks. What can you do during this time to improve your health?
Here are a few simple tips for promoting healthier workday habits:
1. Stand Up
If you have a desk job, one of the best things you can do for your body is to stand up during the day. Staying in a chair for most of the day is hard on your body, but it’s also hard on your mind. So take breaks to stand up and walk. Even if you have a standing desk, it’s still a good idea to make sure you’re walking around throughout the workday.
2. Work Out During Lunch
If you have a hard time getting in a workout either before work or at the end of the day, then your lunch hour could be a great time to fit it in. Even taking thirty minutes in the middle of the day to get in a quick workout has its benefits.
3. Drink Water
Not only does drinking more water during the day keep your body functioning, but it’s also an excellent way to make sure that you’re standing up. Keep a water bottle at your desk and refill it. You’ll get some movement in when you need a refill, and staying hydrated can help keep you alert and feeling good.
4. Walk During Meetings
If possible, turn your smaller meetings or one-on-ones into walking meetings. You and your colleagues will both be able to get a few more steps in your day, and if the weather is nice, then it’s also a great chance to get outside. If a moving meeting isn’t the best option for you, try to fit in a ten-minute walk or two during the day. It’s a great opportunity to clear your mind and also recruit some co-workers to join you.
