No matter how old you are, one thing remains true. If you work hard and work out consistently, you will see results. You can develop a long-term fitness habit at any age by doing activities that you enjoy, as well as by adding variety to your workouts to avoid getting bored.
Here are three more tips to get and stay fit at any age:
1. Train with Good Technique
You’re in the middle of a workout, and your body is getting tired. Your form is starting to fall apart, but you keep pushing through. What’re a few deadlifts with a rounded back?
Even if you can get away with questionable form on a few reps, don’t do it. Maintain proper technique from the beginning of a workout all the way through to the end. If you’re not able to use the correct form for any movement, find a suitable modification or decrease your weight. Never compromise on your technique.
2. Keep Workout Intensity in Check
High-intensity interval training has its place in your workouts, at any age. The key is to be intentional with your workout intensity. Neglecting other or lower intensity levels in favor of higher intensity can lead to overtraining, lack of motivation, and injury.
Make sure you include workout intensities that are an aerobic or endurance intensity level, rather than anaerobic. Also, make sure that you’re targeting strength training at least two times each week.
3. Make Recovery a Priority
An effective workout routine is made up of consistent workouts. However, an often overlooked aspect of this routine is recovery. Do you take the time to recover well with good food, hydration, sleep, and mobility work?
Staying well fueled, rested, and flexible in between your workouts can help produce results just as much as the work itself.
